The project

The Treq is a released music project — a catalog distributed across Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and SoundCloud, spanning indie-folk through cinematic electronic and EDM, with wilderness and coastline themes.

I write the lyrics, define the sonic direction, choose genre and mood, curate every output and direct the emotional arc of each track. Generative tools produce the soundscapes. The creative decisions are mine.

What it produced beyond music

The more portfolio-relevant outcome is what making the music required building. Each of these came from an actual need:

WideFrequency — a WebGL music visualizer built with Three.js: five audio-reactive scenes, twenty palettes, custom GLSL shaders with bloom and ACES tone mapping, and an OBS capture mode. The audio analysis runs a 4096-point FFT with beat detection across eighteen ISO frequency bands, so the visuals respond to musical structure rather than to overall volume.

Spin — a visualizer aimed at producing shareable video. It records the canvas directly through the MediaRecorder API at fixed output resolutions for TikTok and YouTube, which produces clean exports rather than screen recordings.

GrooveCore — a TR-808 style drum machine: a 16-step sequencer built on Tone.js with over 100 presets, exporting standard MIDI files so patterns can move into a real DAW.

And Shimmer, the audio restoration and mastering suite, which is documented separately — it exists because I needed to clean up my own tracks.

Why it’s in a professional portfolio

Not as a music credential. It’s here because it’s an honest picture of how I work: I started making tracks, hit real technical limitations, and built tools to solve them — signal processing, real-time graphics, audio analysis, video encoding. Four working tools came out of a creative hobby.

It’s also the clearest statement of my actual position on generative AI. I use it heavily, I direct it deliberately, and I built a whole piece of software specifically to fix what it gets wrong.
